About
Horny on Main is a slang term for the practice of posting and engaging with sexually charged posts on one's main account on a social media site instead of doing so from a secondary account created for that purpose. It's particularly popular as a meme on Tumblr, and developed from descriptive slang to a meme following Ted Cruz "Liking" a Pornographic Tweet and the supposed outing of Constable Frozen as a vore enthusiast.
Origin
The phrase "horny on main" first appeared online in mid-2016. On June 6th, 2016, Twitter user @spiral_liker[1] posted "sorry for almost getting horny on main, again. im getting better!" (shown below).
Spread
Over the course of the following year, the concept was mentioned mostly by the Furry community on Twitter. This led Twitter user @videodante[2] to remark on March 27th, 2017, "Public Horny On Main is only a thing b/c it was pioneered by people who weren't yknow allowed to be Public Horny literally everywhere else" (shown below).
The concept remained a meme within the furry community for several months after. For example, on June 14th, 2017, Redditor forgetmyface[3] posted a screenshot of esports competitor SonicFox posting furry fan art to /r/Kappa in a post titled "SonicFox posts horny on main (NSFW)" (shown below, left). On August 25th, Tumblr user ladyjericho[4] posted a joke about the term referencing the furry community (shown below, right).
It began to become a joke outside of the Furry community on Tumblr following politician Ted Cruz "Liking" a Pornographic Tweet, thus embodying the danger of being "Horny on Main." On September 12th, 2017, Tumblr user solardivulger[5] uploaded a joke about the moment with the phrase, gaining over 2,600 notes (shown below).
Constable Frozen
Jokes about being "Horny on Main" spiked when rumors spread that popular Frozen fan blog Constable Frozen was in fact posting sexual content and people didn't realize. On October 29th, Tumblr user fingolfinnish[6] uploaded a Newsflash Asshole edit about the controversy, gaining over 180 notes (shown below, left). On October 31st, user roguewavesurfing[7] posted a You Are Already Dead edit with the phrase, gaining over 200 notes (shown below, right).
The Constable Frozen controversy brought the term "horny on main" mainstream attention. Buzzfeed writer Ryan Broderick tweeted about the "horny on main" debate in his tweet coverage of Constable Frozen.[8] "Horny on Main" was also defined in Select All's piece on Constable Frozen.[9]
