About
I'm a Boy Liker, I Like Kissing Men on the Lips refers to a series of recaptioned memes based on an image macro of a cat captioned with an admission of liking men. In the recaptions, certain words are replaced to humorously alter the admission via caption changing.
Origin
While the exact origin of the image macro is unknown, it was likely posted on Discord on September 24th, 2021, or on a prior date. On September 24th, Twitter[1] user @skramzgirl made the earliest found public post of the image macro that combines an image of a cat staring at the camera with the caption in which a person admits to liking boys (better quality upload shown below). On September 25th, 2021, Twitter[2] user @wesnotblumarine made another post of the image, with the post gaining over 3,100 retweets and 14,500 likes in three months.
Spread
On September 24th, 2021, Twitter[3][4] users @skramzgirl and @abby_solitaire both posted first recaptioned versions of the meme, altering the admission to a version about liking females (shown below, left and right). The latter post gained over 3,700 retweets and 19,200 likes in three months.
In October and November 2021, both the original macro and the recaption saw use on social media as reactions, often paired with images of characters one feels attracted to. For example, on October 7th, 2021, Twitter[5] user @HourlyBarmaid posted the image together with art of Barmaid from Identity V, with the post gaining over 200 retweets and 660 likes (shown below, left). On November 22nd, Twitter[6] user @44mkura posted the image together with the official art of the Genshin Impact character Shenhe, with the post gaining over 240 retweets and 850 likes (shown below, right).
Additionally, starting in late September 2021, both the original and the female version of the macro were recaptioned in various ways, often to reflect one's affinity for certain characters or media.
