About

"Hyadain's One-sided Love-C" (Japanese: ヒャダインのカカカタ☆カタオモイ-C, Hyadain no Kakakata Kataomoi-C) is the first opening theme song for the Japanese anime series Nichijou. Since the series' Spring 2011 premiere, the show's opening credits and theme has inspired many users of Nico Nico Douga into producing many parodies, remixes, musical covers and MAD videos.

Origin

The anime adaptation of the manga Nichijou was produced by animation studio Kyoto Animation and first premiered in Japan on April 3rd, 2011. The show's opening theme song was written and performed by composer Kenichi Maeyamada, better by his stage name Hyadain. He got this opportunity through the popularity of his many works (such as Western Show) on Niconico, and this song was his debut single under a major record label as Hyadain. The official music video for this song was uploaded to his YouTube (shown below, left) and Niconico account, and the opening credits of the anime has been shared many times on YouTube and Niconico (shown below, right).

Spread

Partly thanks to Hyadain's widespread popularity on NND and Kyoto Animation's well-made animation as well as their previous works such as The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star and K-ON!, the song soon gained much attention among Niconico users. These users immediately began creating many musical remixes and covers of the song and parody videos for the opening credits. Another reason for the high motivation towards making parodies was an online contest in a promotional campaign launched by a record label that was held from April 27th to May 21st, 2011.[1] In turn, many of the singing, dancing, and instrumental covers were created to participate in this contest because the winners were given the chance to collaborate with Hyadain in his next work, but most of them were pure parodies. As of March 2013, the amount of covers, MADs and remixes for this song is more than 900[2], and have also been uploaded to YouTube.[3]

TMA's parody

A Japanese porn video production company Total Media Agency (TMA), which is famous for their many parody porn videos for popular animes, released the video called Hinichijou (非日常; lit. Extra-ordinary life) in August 2011. Though it didn't use the original audiotrack, the video naturally included the spoofs of Hyadain's music video and the anime's opening movie reproduced by porn actors. This video below is a comparison of the original and TMA's parody made by a NND user, which has gained more than 600,000 pageviews on NND.
