About
I Come In Peace and I'm Peace refers to a series of redraw and fandom memes depicting two characters wearing shirts that read "I come in peace" and "I'm peace" respectively, a double entendre where the first phrase can be read sexually. The original meme was posted to X, formerly Twitter, by artist hitsujigoods in March 2022 and became an increasingly popular source of redraws and referential fan art over the following months.
Origin
On March 16th, 2022, X[1] user and artist @hitsujigoods posted a piece of artwork depicting an alien girl standing with a human girl. The alien girl's shirt reads, "I come in peace" and the human girl's shirt reads, "I'm Peace," as if her name is Peace, suggesting the two are in a sexual relationship. The image gained over 195,000 likes in a year (shown below).
The artwork became the subject of redraws and referential art over the following months. Some early examples include a March 17th, 2022 post by X[2] user @Felisamos2 and a March 19th post by X[3] user @AElijoh, garnering over 170 likes and 300 likes respectively in a year (shown below, left and right).
Spread
On October 4th, 2022, X[4] user and artist @vermilli000n posted a piece of art featuring two characters in the shirts captioned "Average anime con visitors," garnering over 112,000 likes in a year (shown below). The meme was reposted to Facebook[8] page Otakus Of The Rebellion R2 on October 5th, garnering over 174,000 reactions and 50,000 shares in a year. It was also posted to /r/shitposting[5] on October 9th, garnering over 3,200 upvotes in the same span of time.
On October 10th, X[6] user @tinie_yun posted a redraw of the meme using Genshin Impact characters that gained over 15,000 likes in a year (shown below, left). On October 18th, X[7] user @Biichon__ posted a redraw that gained over 3,200 likes in the same span of time. On April 1st, 2023, Facebook[9] page My Crazy Page posted a photo of two people wearing shirts with the phrases on them, garnering over 5,100 reactions in seven months (shown below, right). It was reposted by Facebook[10] page What Guys Like later that day, garnering over 8,800 reactions in the same span of time.
On May 5th, X[11] user @vermilli000n, the artist behind the October 4th, 2022 version of the meme, posted, "Fun fact: when I'm bored I looked back to the 'I come in peace I'm peace' post then I gained my motivation full just instantly." On October 10th, Instagram[12] user @crimeless_ posted a drawing using the shirts, garnering over 21,000 likes in a month (shown below).
