About
I Should Peg Him refers to a photoshopped single-panel webcomic originally by MekuArts depicting a man saying to his girlfriend, "I hate industrial society," and the girlfriend thinking, "I should peg him" while staring lovingly. The original webcomic features the man describing his interest in video games to his girlfriend. The image became a popular exploitable in April 2021, resulting in a number of popular variations.
Origin
On November 24th, 2020, artist Meku posted an original piece of art to her MekuArts Facebook[1] page depicting a man telling his girlfriend about a video game he likes and her listening intently, thinking, "I love you," (shown below). The post gained over 55,000 shares and 18,000 reactions in six months.
On March 23rd, 2021, Redditor u/Skullcatcher_hun posted a photoshopped version of the meme to /r/196,[2] the boy's text bubble reading, "I hate industrial society," and the girl's reading, "this dude gay af I should peg tf out of him," garnering over 5,200 upvotes in two months (shown below).
Spread
On March 23rd, the day of the first photoshop, Instagram[3] user @repositorio.impresionante posted a version of the image removing "this dude gay af," simplifying the girl's phrase to, "I should peg him," garnering over 2,900 likes in two months (shown below, left). Later that day, Redditor u/AmphibiousAssault723 posted another new version to /r/PoliticalCompassMemes,[4] garnering over 2,700 upvotes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
On March 27th, Instagram[5] user @bladeesgf posted repositorio.impersionante's version of the meme, garnering over 17,000 likes in two months. On the same day, Tumblr[6] user alatreon-egi posted the same meme, garnering over 17,000 notes in the same period of time. On March 28th, Tumblr[7] user boy-wife posted a version of the meme replacing the boy with Karl Marx, garnering over 2,200 notes in two months (shown below).
The format continued to spread over the next two months, resulting in a number of variations over the course of April and May. For example, on April 3rd, Twitter[8] user @sh1nxi posted a version of the meme, garnering over 760 likes and 160 retweets in a month (shown below, left). On April 23rd, Redditor u/orcaworshipper posted another new version to /r/PoliticalCompassMemes,[9] garnering over 2,200 upvotes in a month (shown below, right).
