About

& and other related videos are YouTube Poop videos containing the following components:

  • A symbol or emoticon as its title (Ex: "%" or "n_n" )
  • One or more pictures or short clips being flipped horizontally and continuously
  • A song playing in the background

Determining the amount of contributions to the fad is difficult because they have no common tags and their titles are virtually unsearchable.

Origin

On August 12, 2008, user BMATF submitted the following video using the character Cosmo from Sonic X and the sped-up version of the Super Mario World Ending theme as background music.

Despite having less than 100,000 views, BMATF unintentionally caused other users to make similar, confusing videos and has become widespread enough that many YouTube users do not know its origin. Most of these videos have relatively low viewcounts (the highest ones being in the tens of thousands), but the amount of responses is impressive:

"Japan Break Industries"

2009 saw the fad continue to produce spin-offs, but with a twist.

In mid-2009, renowned YouTube Poop user "IAMGOOMBA" revitalized the fad by uploading the video, ":D", using a sped-up version of "Japan Break Industries:"

However, this video has since been removed.

Another respected YouTube Poop user, CommanderGwonam, uploaded a similar video using clips from the Zelda CDi Games:

Perhaps as a result, new videos following the pattern of the fad started to consistently use "Japan Break Industries" as their background music.

Background Information

"Japan Break Industries" is a Japanese demolition company with an extremely catchy commericial jingle.

The original:

Lyrics:

Break it down! Break around! We’re coming to your town
To destroy, if you employ! We’ll work without a sound
The building can’t take it for very much more
Pieces of concrete are hitting the floor
They’re the things that get in the way of world peace
Break Out!
Japan Break Industries – Steel ball Da Da Da
Japan Break Industries – Chemical anchor rock this house to the ground!
We bring the house down! We bring the bridge down! We bring the building down! From east to west
We get it on! We get it on! Japan Break Industries

Break defence! Break offence! A faulty residence
Wood and bricks, we’ll unfix! For a low expense
Pile head welding is our forte
We got support 24 a day
Hammer of justice, high up in the sky
Break Out!
Japan Break Industries – Diamond cutter Da Da Da
Japan Break Industries – Automated compressor let your echoes shake the ground!
We bring the house down! We bring the bridge down! We bring the building down! From east to west
We get it on! We get it on! Japan Break Industries

Japan Break Industries – Steel ball Da Da Da (Ooh!)
Japan Break Industries – Chemical anchor Da Da Da (Da!)
Japan Break Industries – Diamond cutter Da Da Da (Hey!)
Japan Break Industries – Automated compressor let your echoes shake the ground!
We bring the house down! We bring the bridge down! We bring the building down! From east to west
We get it on! We get it on! Japan Break Industries
Break it down now!

However, the song's sped-up version became more popular in usage after the 2006 YTMND fad, Catch That Man took off.
