On March 7th, 2020, at Ultimate Fighting Championship #248, Beneil Dariush knocked out Drakkar Klose during a one-on-one mixed martial arts (MMA) match. Following the match, ESPN's MMA-focused Twitter account shared a clip of the commentators' reaction, which showed announcer Daniel Cormier falling over colleague Joe Rogan, who grabbed Cormier and fellow announcer Jon Anik. The post received more than 800,000 views, 10,000 likes and 1,800 retweets in less than one week (shown below).

That evening, YouTuber Thomas MMAvideos posted a full clip of the reaction to the knockout (shown below, left). Additionally, that night, Twitter[5] user @iamjohnpollock tweeted the screenshot that would be used in a series of memes based on the reaction. They captioned the image, "Beneil Dariush def. Drakkar Klose by KO at 1:00 of Round 2." The post received more than 350 likes in less than one week (shown below, right).
Spread
That night, the website Barstool Sports posted the image on Facebook [4] with the caption "When they do the onion volcano at the Hibachi place #UFC248." The post received more than 29,000 reactions, 20,000 shares and 4,000 comments in less than one week (shown below, right).
Hours later, Anik posted a screenshot of the reactions on Instagram. [1] The post received more than 17,000 likes in less than one week (shown below). Hours later, Rogan shared the post on Instagram,[2] which was liked by more than 430,000 Instagram users.
That day, the reaction began to spread over Twitter. For example, GIPHY sports made a GIF of the moment (shown below).

Over the next few days, the image spread around Instagram as popular accounts began captioning the screenshot. For example, Instagram[3] account @shitheadsteve posted a version in which the image reacts to the caption "My dogs after I walk in the house at the same time of day I always do." The post received more than 132,000 likes in less than two days (shown below, left). Throughout the week, others followed, captioning the image with expressions of excitement and surprise (examples below, center and right).
