About

Kazuya Mishima In EVO 2022 'Tekken' Teaser refers to a surprise reveal at EVO 2022 of what could potentially be a teaser for Tekken 8 starring Kazuya Mishima giving his iconic smirk while the text reads "Get Ready." After that moment, the screenshot of Kazuya was widely edited with humorous text.

Origin

On August 7th, 2022, after the Tekken 7 grand finals of EVO 2022, publishers Bandai Namco released a trailer for a free update to the game.[1] At the end of the trailer, a cutscene from Tekken 1 in which Kazuya drops Heihachi off a cliff and smirks plays. However, at the end of the scene, Kazuya shifts into modern graphics and the text "Get ready" appears on screen (shown below). Many speculated that this was a teaser for Tekken 8,[1] though that is unconfirmed.

Spread

Shortly after the trailer was released, social media users quickly began posting jokes about and edits of the modern Kazuya. For example, user @sonicforces[2] joked the image wasn't a teaser but a threat, gaining over 4,400 retweets and 24,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). User @magicsaito[3] posted multiple edits, including an image of Kazuya saying "What was he cookin?" (shown below, right), gaining over 2,200 retweets and 11,000 likes
