About

Tekken ( 鉄拳 ,traduced "Iron Fist") refers a series fighting video games created, developed, and published by Namco. The game centers around a host of characters, each with different fighting styles and experties, engaging in The King of Iron Fist Tournament.

Gameplay

The gameplay mostly consists in one-on-one matches. However, unlike other games, Tekken allows your character to move in all areas of the combat zone, rather than just moving forward and backwards.

History

On December 9th, 1994, Namco released the first Tekken arcade system and on PlayStation the following year. It was one of the first fighting games to use 3D animation after Virtua Figther. [1]

On August 3rd, 1995 Tekken 2 launched on arcades first, followed by PlayStation in 1996.





On March 20th, 1997, Tekken 3 was released on arcades and on PlayStation the following year. The game was a massive success, becoming the second best selling fighting game of all time.

It would be several years before the next one. On July 2001, Namco released Tekken 4 on arcades.



In 2004, Namco released Tekken 5 for the arcade and PlayStation 2 the next year. That year, an update called Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection was launched for arcades and a version for the PSP in July 2006.

On November 26th, 2007, Bandai Namco released Tekken 6 in Japanese arcades and an update called Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion. The following year, versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were released on October 27th, 2009 and for the PSP on November 24th of the same year.



In March 2015, Bandai Namco Entertainment released Tekken 7 for the arcades in Japan and an updated arcade version called Tekken 7: Fated Retribution came out in Japan the following year. Versions for Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One would be released in June 2017.



Reception

While the first Tekken game received moderately positive reviews, two and three were widley regarded as successes. Tekken 3 has been considered not just one of the greatest fighting games of all time, but one of the greatest video games of all time. The review aggregate site Metacritic[9] gave it 96% positive score.

Fandom

On December 9th, 2010, Redditor [5] tieTYT launched the /r/Tekken subreddit, a place where Tekken fans could share art, news, memes, etc.

On May 27th, 2016, the official @TEKKEN Twitter [4] account launched. As of August 2017, the account as more than 37,000 followers.

On October 6th, 2016, the official Tekken Facebook [3] account launched. As of August 2017, the page has more than 3 million follows and 3 millions likes.
