On September 7th, 2022, The Pokémon Company posted a trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that revealed, among other things, Klawf,^[1] a crustacean Rock-type Pokémon.

According to the Pokémon website,^[2] Klawf is described as a "Pokémon with powerful claws."

Spread

Klawf was a quick hit among Pokémon fans after his reveal in early September 2022. Many people referenced famous memes involving crabs, such as Crab Rave. For example, Twitter user @64BitsAnimation posted a crab rave animation with Klawf on September 7th, gaining over 8,900 retweets and 40,000 likes in two days (shown below, top). That same day, Twitter user @SlowbrowStan posted an edit of the trailer with the Crab Rave music, gaining over 360 retweets and 1,400 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, bottom).
