Maison Kitsuné 2015 Fall/Winter "K.I.M" Campaign Ship Redraws refers to redraws based on a photograph from a 2015 campaign by fashion brand Maison Kitsuné. Although redraws existed as far back as 2021, they exploded in popularity in mid-2023 after Twitter artist Eulyy encouraged others to create redraw with their favorite ships.

Origin

In July 2015, Maison Kitsuné, a French-Japanese fashion and lifestyle brand, began a campaign for their fall and winter lineup^[1]. One of the photographs used in the campaign, shot by Pierpaolo Ferrari, depicts a man lying down with his knees up, and a woman lying on top of him (shown below).

On August 12th, 2021, Tumblr user Yuhichu^[2] posted the earliest known instance of a redraw, with their original character lying on top of Giyu Tomioka from Demon Slayer (shown below). The post received 29 likes and 3 reblogs in just under 2 years.

Spread

On June 27th, 2023, Twitter artist Eulyy (@Euly_y)^[3] tweeted "draw your fav ship like this" with a variant of the original photograph attached. The tweet received over 67,600 likes and 7,790 retweets in just over 2 weeks (shown below).

Following their post, artists began posting characters redrawn to match the poses in the photograph. For example, that same day, Twitter user Nokia8Cut^[4] tweeted a redraw with Deadpool laying on top of Spider-man (shown below, left). The tweet received 5,390 likes and 460 retweets in 2 weeks. User @creadbrumbs^[5] tweeted a redraw with Genshin Impact characters; Tighnari on top of Cyno (shown below, right). The tweet received over 18,900 likes and 2760 retweets in 2 weeks.
