About

Mi Primera Chamba or My First Job in English refers to a series of videos in which people share mistakes they've made at their first job. The trend was popularized in August 2023 on TikTok using an AI version of the music 'Si La Calle Llama' by Eladio Carrión' which replaced the original lyrics for the phrase "mi primera chamba," inspiring people to post funny clips related to their first job experiences.

Origin

On March 17th, 2023, American rapper and singer of Latin trap and reggaeton Eladio Carrion released on YouTube[1] a music video titled "Si La Calle Llama." The song amassed over 90 million views and 727,000 likes in seven months.

The music received a remix utilizing AI on TikTok[2] by user @bluegrave_ on August 19th, 2023, titled "si la chamba llama remix," in which the lyrics replaced the word "calle" (street in Spanish) for "chamba" – Mexican slang for job or work. As of October 30th, the music has been disabled on TikTok due to copyright issues. A version of the remix was posted on YouTube[3] on October 8th, 2023, amassing more than 7,000 views and 578 likes in a month.

Spread

The AI remix became a popular TikTok sound, garnering over 126,000[4] videos tagged on the platform. The hashtag #miprimerachamba amassed more than 2.5 billion views on TikTok, with a series of funny videos of people having a bad day at work. For example, on October 18th, 2023, TikTok[5] user @tiokiky posted a clip of a woman cleaning a plate in a kitchen and mistaking her phone for a plate (shown below, left). The post amassed over 65 million plays and 5.9 million likes in two weeks. On October 16th, 2023, TikTok[6] user @kamisatohampe uploaded a video of a worker trying to carry a bag of cement that ends up being torn and everything falls on top of him (shown below, right). The video garnered more than 61 million plays and 5.1 million likes in two weeks.
