About

"My Nipple? Your Heart." is an exploitable scene taken from the Thai television series "Tonhon Chonlatee".[1] The scene has become a source for redrawing with various anime and videogame characters as a four-panel meme.

Origin

On November 20th, 2020, GMMTV posted an english subtitled version of the second episode of Tonhon Chonlatee to YouTube. Near the end of the second quarter, Chonlatee talks with Pang about Tonhon and his ex-girlfriend. Pang tells Chonlatee not to worry about her as he's much cuter, then pokes at his chest and says "You have this". Chonlatee misinterprets the gesture by asking "My Nipple?". Pang then replies frustratedly "Your heart.".

A few days after the episode aired, a four-panel meme was created from the scene. The exact date and origin of this four-panel image is currently unknown.

Don't worry about it. Trust me. You are way cuter than her. You have this. My nipple? Your heart.

Part of what I find funny is that the context behind the characters adds new layers to the joke.

For example, here's a Fire Emblem version.

Here, the joke is partially that blue haired girl had a strange upbringing with few friends, and is thus socially oblivious at points. Furthermore, by making her hold "Geralt's Journal," the comic implies that this is taking place during a part of the story where blue-haired girl is at a moral low point and white-haired girl, who also has a lot of baggage in addition to possible unrequited feelings, went out of her way to try to raise her spirits. Which makes the comedic misunderstanding more comedically timed.

On the other hand:

In this version, the tone is different. The girlfriend is trying to raise the boyfriend's spirits, but based on their characterization and facial expression, we know that he is just messing with her. This time, more of the humor comes from the fact that these two care enough about each other to quietly tease each other, and get exasperated with the other's antics while still caring deeply for them.

TLDR: Context matters.

I get subcultures making original content based on memes making the rounds, but when it's a one-to-one redrawing of the meme with the exact same joke but with other characters, I rly don't see the point.
