Oh No, Bro! or Characters Reacting To Sad Breaking News is a drawing of several characters from cartoons and video games, including Muscle Man, Mario, a Creeper and Rick Sanchez, crying about breaking news on the television. The original image was posted to Twitter in April 2022 in response to Nancy Pelosi catching COVID-19 and became the subject of photoshops over the following months as an exploitable format.

Origin

On April 8th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @roach_collector posted a piece of artwork depicting Mario, Muscle Man from Regular Show, the red M&M, a Creeper from Minecraft, SpongeBob, Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty, Crocker from The Fairly OddParents and Blue from Blue's Clues crying at a TV set, with Muscle Man saying, "Oh no, bro!" A speech bubble from the television reads, "BREAKING NEWS! Nancy Pelosi has tested positive for COVID-19!" The post gained over 12,300 likes and 1,700 retweets in two months (shown below). The user posted four blank templates of the meme the next day in a comment (see templates).[2]

The meme inspired several variations over the following months applying new different and fictional breaking news stories to the format. On April 26th, 2022, Redditor panda_man2145 posted a version of the meme to /r/okbuddyretard[3] about the untitled 2022 Super Mario movie being delayed, gaining over 11,300 upvotes in two months (shown below).

On June 17th, Instagram[4] user joan.of.arca posted a version of the meme about Dr. Fauci testing positive for COVID-19, gaining over 13,800 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On June 22nd, Instagram[5] user boomer.jim posted a version of the meme about Joe Biden Falling Off His Bike, gaining over 17,800 likes in a week (shown below, right). The mem was reposted by Instagram[6] user big_chungles on June 22nd, gaining over 17,400 likes in a week.

If you were to tell me a few months ago that the next Twitter exploitable would involve the Minecraft Creeper, the Red M&M, and Rick from Rick and Morty being featured in a fan art of them responding to the news that the Speaker of the House contracted COVID-19, I wouldn't believe you.
