CarryMinati is an Indian YouTube channel run by Ajey Nagar, a streamer and content creator from Faridabad, India. Carry makes commentary roasts and reaction videos on his YouTube channel. As of 2022, he is the most subscribed to non-corporate Indian YouTuber and the first in India to reach 30 million subscribers. In 2020, Carry became the subject of debate about anti-TikTok sentiments in India after he released a vitriolic video that was taken down for hate speech against the LGBT community at 70 million views and 10 million likes.

Career

YouTube

Carry began uploading videos to YouTube on October 30th, 2014 at the age of 15 under the channel name "Addicted A1," making gameplay videos for videos games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. He then began making videos under the name "CarryDeol," mimicking the voice of Bollywood actor Sunny Deol and making roasts and rant-style content reminiscent of LeafyIsHere. The name "CarryMinati" emerged as a reference to the Illuminati 2016.[1]

Carry's earliest viral video was a May 31st, 2016 roast of India's then-most popular YouTube page, "BB Ki Vines," which gathered over 4 million views in four years. The video has since been unlisted on YouTube[2] but can be accessed via a reupload (seen below).[3]

Accolades

In 2019, Nagar was listed at the 10th position in the Next Generation Leaders' 2019 by Time magazine, which is an annual list of ten young people who construct innovative careers.[7] In April 2020 he was part of Forbes's "30 Under 30" in Asia.[8]

'YouTube vs TikTok: The End'

In 2020, CarryMinati became popular for uploading roast-style videos about popular Indian TikTok content creators, including Amir Siddiqui. Siddiqui made a response video to the hate, and in response, Carry uploaded a video on May 8th, 2020, titled, "YouTube vs. TikTok: The End." The video went viral and helped Carry gain over 1 million subscribers in a day, then over 5.7 million subscribers in a week, breaking the previous record of 4.23 million set by Tati Westbrook in May 2019. The video was on track to beat MrBeast's "Make This The Most Liked Video On YouTube" to become the most-liked non-music video on the entire website within 12 days of its release; however, it was taken down by YouTube at 70 million views and 10 million likes on counts of bullying and harassment. The video can be accessed via reupload (seen below).[4][5]

By the end of May 2020, CarryMinati gained a record 9.1 million subscribers, beating PewDiePie's 6 million gained in December 2018.[6]
