About

Fish Girl, also known as Nina Girl, is a girl named Jordyn who was a contestant on a 2019 YouTube video by The Cut called "7 High Schoolers Decide Who Wins $1000." In the video, she said she wanted to pay for a trip to the Bahamas and become a marine biologist, which later spawned the nickname "Fish Girl." She was called "Nina Girl" by others for a moment when she was asked who the group leader was and she repeatedly said, "Nina, Nina, Nina!" referring to another contestant. Many found Jordyn cringe and brash and made memes and fancam edits with her on TikTok going into the 2020s. Many of the edits and memes about her also championed her attitude and personality. In 2024, the Fish Girl saying, "Just Vote, Just Vote," became a viral TikTok sound. In turn, Jordyn made a TikTok account called @ogfishgirl723 and amassed thousands of followers in a short timeframe.

Online History

On November 11th, 2019, The Cut posted a YouTube[1] video called "7 High Schoolers Decide Who Wins $1000" as a part of its 1000 to 1 video series. One of the contestants was named Jordyn, seen wearing blue overalls with a blue shirt and short brown hair. The video received over 13.3 million views in five years (shown below).

In the video, Jordyn says that she wants to become a marine biologist and that she wants the money to go to the Bahamas. When pressed, she admits that the trip is out of self-interest and not through school or a learning program. She's voted off in the second round after failing to stand on one foot. From the couch, she interjects multiple times.

She was nicknamed "Fish Girl" because she frequently referenced her interest in marine biology, such as in the beginning and later when she wanted to quiz people on the ocean and told the remaining contestants to each draw an octopus.

She was also nicknamed "Nina Girl" because of a moment at the video's 6:40-minute mark (shown below) when the kids are asked, "Who's the leader here?" and Jordyn repeatedly says, "Nina."
