About
MeatCanyon, also known as Papa Meat, is the YouTuber alias of Hunter August Hancock, an American animator, voice actor, comedian, writer and director who makes animations including parodies. His style of video animation has become known for disturbing, horrifying and gross-out content. He's also part of the podcast series "Cream Crew with Flashgitz" to discuss various topics. In December 2023 he retired from uploading for the time being, but as of January 2021, his YouTube channel has over 6.4 million subscribers.
Online History
On January 27th, 2017, MeatCanyon uploaded his first video to his YouTube[6] channel under the title "Magic Man" (seen below). The video, which contains the disclaimer "this video is not intended for children-this video should not be viewed by anyone" in the description, received over 1.1 million views, 54,000 likes and 1,280 comments in roughly four years.
Monster Lab
Monster Lab is MeatCanyon's original animation series about two scientific monsters Katz and Uno that try to solve solutions by creating monsters in a three-bedroom house in a suburban town while being stalked by an ex-officer wearing only his underwear named Henry King. The first episode[1] premiered at the beginning of 2021 on January 3rd, with over 3 million views in eight months (shown below). Monster Lab is planned to be released as the first season of all eight episodes by the end of 2021.
Wabbit Season Controversy
On February 2nd, 2020, a parody[2] of Looney Tunes titled "Wabbit Season" was uploaded to YouTube. Three hours later, YouTube deleted the video entirely with the reason being a copyright violation by Warner Bros. Pictures, giving MeatCanyon a copyright strike. On March 22nd, 2020, MeatCanyon later posted an animation parody[3] of "Wabbit Season" being taken down with characters mourning the death of "Wabbit Season" on YouTube, where it gained 10 million views in three months (shown below). Because of the violation being a copyright strike, it is now claimed by fans of Meatcanyon that the events of "Wabbit Season," including Bugs' hobby depicted in the video, are now canonized within Warner Bros. official lore.
JAWBREAKER
Meatcanyon has done two videos on Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy, which were titled "JAWBREAKER"[4] and "JAWBREAKER 2."[5] These shorts were known for their horror, as well as graphic violence in the second iteration, something not always found in MeatCanyon videos. "JAWBREAKER" and "JAWBREAKER 2" combined have over 20 million views in just over a year since first being posted (shown below, left and right).
Retirement from YouTube
On December 30th, 2023, MeatCanyon announced his retirement from his YouTube[7] channel, citing the stress of producing quality content on a tight schedule; however, he is still focusing on uploading to his second channel, PapaMeat. The news was left open-ended, accompanied by the caption "if you have taken time to view my content, share it, comment on a video then thank you. I hope that i can come back and make something truly amazing for you. Just need some time to sleep. LOVE YA :)." The video announcing the news, entitled "Goodbye For Now," received over 3,600,000 views in less than two weeks.
Reactions from MeatCanyon's audience ranged from disappointment to ironic memes celebrating the channel's deactivation. Overall, most social media responses, particularly on X,[8] compared his exodus to other YouTubers who decided to retire within the following weeks, such as MatPat. The January 9th tweet below, posted by @AidsCommentary_ on Twitter, makes this comparison with a collage of other creators leaving the platform. It received 52,000 likes and 3,900 retweets in three days.
Personal Life
Hunter Hancock was born on December 30th, 1982, in the United States, where he is also based.
