Please Do Not The Cat refers to an image macro of an edited WikiHow drawing of a hand reaching out to an angry cat. The text reads "Please Do Not The Cat." The image has been used in several images parodying the verbless wording of the caption.
Origin
On September 29th, 2019, Facebook page WikiHow Image Macros,[1] a Facebook group devoted to posting parody WikiHow images, posted the "Please Do Not The Cat" image, gaining over 4,000 likes and reactions and 7,100 shares in slightly less than a year (shown below).
Spread
The image was quickly spread to other communities online. On September 30th, 2019, it appeared on /r/ontheledgeandshit[2] (shown below) and /r/ihadastroke,[3] the latter of which was deleted after gaining over 3,000 points. On December 8th, it was reposted to /r/comedyheaven,[4] gaining over 240 points.
Parodies of the image began growing popular during the summer of 2020. For example, on August 13th, user Conclave of Hypixel.net[5] posted a parody in a forum post (shown below, left). On August 23rd, Twitter account @reactjpg[6] posted a The World If parody of the image (shown below, right).
