About

"Quit procrastinating. Work on your art." is an image macro featuring a black-and-white illustration of Batman pointing at the viewer. The image is often used as a motivational poster for artists or to initiate an art-sharing thread on discussion forums and social media, in a similar vein to the "You Should Be Studying" image macros.

Origin

The exact origin of the meme is unknown but it appears to have first turned up on Tumblr in 2011. Several posts featuring the image from that time all claim that they reblogged it from a user named lotusstp; unfortunately that Tumblr is no longer activated as of July 2015.[1] The image of Batman used appears to be a piece of fan art drawn by someone with the initials BTC, where Batman is drawn in the classic Uncle Sam pose.

Spread

Both the Batman image and the phrase have spread beyond their initial postings. A meme generator using the image was created in December of 2012, and ranks in the 27,000s in popularity.[2] Images using the phrase are still quite popular on Tumblr.[3] There are 280 results for the phrase on DeviantArt, many with alternative images drawn in a similar style.[4]
