Red Hair E-Girl and Blue Hair Goth Girl Making Out Selfie is an exploitable object-labeling meme based on a selfie photograph of an e-girl with red hair and a goth girl with blue-green hair making out, the blue-haired girl lifting the red-haired one in the image. The photo started to spread as a meme as early as 2020. The girls in the photo are purportedly influencers named Ida and Tyra.
Origin
On July 11th, 2020, X[1] user @rayn_thinks posted a selfie of two girls, one with red hair and one with blue hair, making out, garnering over 640 likes in four years (shown below, left). The image was cropped and posted by Tumblr[2] user x-egirl-x on August 4th, garnering over 5,000 notes in the same span of time. Purportedly, the girls in the photo are influencers Ida and Tyra,[3] although this is unconfirmed and it is unclear where they originally posted the photo.
The earliest known meme to use the photo was posted to the subreddit /r/Hornyjail[4] on December 4th, 2020, by Redditor u/BlameARed, captioning the red-haired girl, "Speedwagon foundation" and the blue-haired girl, "This template made me so horny I forgot what I was going to meme about," garnering over 11,000 upvotes in four years (shown below, right).
Spread
The meme gained viral spread over the following years, becoming particularly popularized on Reddit. On December 4th, 2020, a version of the meme referencing Ahsoka was posted to /r/196,[5] garnering over 3,600 upvotes in four years (shown below, left). On April 21st, 2022, Tumblr[6] user catgirlbutthole posted a version of the meme that garnered over 18,000 notes in two years (shown below, right).
On May 30th, 2022, Redditor u/czarkncr posted a version of the meme to /r/meme[7] that garnered over 3,100 upvotes in two years (shown below). On October 16th, X[8] user @vamptwinkC posted a version of the meme that garnered over 9,600 likes in roughly the same span of time. On April 18th, 2023, a version of the meme was posted to /r/dankmemes[9] that gained over 2,300 upvotes in a year.
