About
Regular Show Episode Progression is a cliché associated with the Cartoon Network show Regular Show that all the episodes escalate quickly as they progress into outlandish scenarios, only for the episode to end at its original, more mundane state. Memes about this cliché emerged on iFunny in February 2021, however, they received more attention in August 2021 across Twitter and TikTok.
Origin
On February 3rd, 2021, iFunnier[1] @Frumpycheese posted the first known meme made about the rapid progression of Regular Show episodes. The meme has two panels that demonstrate the first half of an episode versus the second half. The meme (shown below) received roughly 61,800 smiles over the course of nine months.
Spread
Another meme emerged from iFunny in early February 2021 that used the Gotye Wokeuplikethis Hyperborea format to demonstrate the absurdity of a Regular Show episode's middle. However, the original iFunny uploader is unknown. The first known repost was made to Instagram [2] on February 12th, 2021.
Starting in July 2021, Regular Show episode progression started being used in memes on Twitter. On July 16th, 2021, Twitter[3] user @MunstaMasta posted a tweet talking about "the escalation in Regular Show episodes is fucking crazy…" The tweet (shown below) received roughly 3,600 likes over the course of three months.
The above tweet inspired more Twitter users to make jokes about the absurdity of Regular Show episodes. On July 19th, 2021, Twitter[4] user @parrttyy_ tweeted "Regular show episode pacing be like" with a video attached of a weird car crash. The tweet (shown below) received roughly 119,800 likes over the course of three months. This tweet was reshaped into a meme on iFunny[5] posted on July 20th, 2021, which was featured and received roughly 70,600 smiles.
