The Rylo Huncho Accidental Shooting Video, also known as Rylo Huncho Shoots Himself Video, Rapper Shoots Himself Video or Rylo Huncho Gun Video, refers to a viral video and piece of shock media showing 17-year-old Suffolk, Virginia rapper Rylo Huncho accidentally shooting himself in the head on his Instagram account @rylohuncho_. Rylo Huncho passed away from the self-inflicted gunshot wound, killing himself instantly. Reports of his death surfaced in mid-May 2024 as the video leaked and spread on Twitter / X and Reddit. A GoFundMe campaign was also launched for the rapper's grieving mother called "Support for Grieving Aunt After Tragic Loss."
Origin
On May 15th, 2024, Suffolk, Virginia teenager Rylo Huncho posted a video to his Instagram[1] Story (screenshots shown below) showing himself holding a sidearm, pointing it at his head and accidentally shooting himself in the head. It's currently unknown how the video was posted to his story because local police found him at his home deceased from the gunshot wound.[2]
On May 16th, Redditor[3] kennyd1991 posted a recording of the video to the subreddit /r/bestestgunnitweekend, receiving over 320 upvotes in six days. The video was also posted by X[4] user @NatCon2022 on May 16th, gaining over 1,600 likes in six days.
Spread
Reactions to the video spread online, such as a Reel posted by Instagram[5] user @thegpovpodcast on May 17th, 2024, who was saddened by the event, receiving a hidden but viral amount of likes (shown below). He also posted the video to his TikTok.[6]
On May 16th, a GoFundMe[9] campaign was launched by user Monica Savage called "Support for Grieving Aunt After Tragic Loss," which aimed for $15,000 in support for Rylo Huncho's mother. By May 21st, 2024, the campaign had amassed roughly $3,000 (shown below).
On May 17th, 2024, X[7] user Ian Miles Cheong (@stillgray) posted about Rylo Huncho's death, receiving over 23,000 likes in four days (shown below, left).
On May 20th, Redditor[8] Mikey77777 shared a screenshot of a headline to /r/NormMacdonald, writing, "Maybe the worst gimmick a rapper ever had," receiving over 1,900 upvotes in a day (shown below, right).
As evident in the screenshot shown above, news outlets like the New York Post[2] also reported on Rylo Huncho's passing.
