About

Shrek Rave Visuals by Excision refers to a series of viral videos showing visuals at an electronic music festival concert in which Shrek is screaming and vomiting. The visuals were for the artist Excision's performance at The Thunderdome in February 2024. The videos went viral on TikTok and Twitter / X, generating reactions and discourse based on the over-the-top nature of the visuals. Many labeled the visuals as scary or cringe, using them to generalize all concert visuals shown behind DJs at festivals and raves.

Between February 2nd and February 4th, 2024, Canadian DJ Excision hosted a concert called The Thunderdome in Tacoma, Washington.[1] On February 4th, 2024, X[2] user @Scvno_ shared three videos from The Thunderdome's last night where behind Excision was a visual of Shrek screaming as well as one of a gorilla and one of a skeleton. Later on February 4th, 2024, TikToker[4] @chindoboi shared a different video of the same Shrek visual seen hopping around, screaming at the crowd and then vomiting on the crowd. The video gained roughly 13.9 million plays and 2.4 million likes in two days (shown below, right).

Precursor

Before Excision's usage of Shrek visuals in 2024, an electronic music event called Shrek Rave had been active since March 2021.[6] The Shrek-themed rave used Shrek visuals behind the DJ booth. Multiple viral videos of Shrek Rave surfaced on TikTok[7][8] in 2022 and 2023, like one posted by TikToker[7] @khailanonymous on July 24th, 2022, gaining over 4.5 million plays and 782,200 likes in two years (shown below, left).
