About

Sir, This Is The Scariest Moment Of My Life refers to an exploitable meme template of a man being approached by a man with no skin. The meme originates from a comic drawn by the artist Mat Brinkman. It was first shared online in 2012 and was re-edited by meme creators throughout the 2010s and 2020s. The zombie character was replaced with memes like Biblically Accurate Angels and the speech bubbles were recaptioned in subsequent iterations.

Origin

The original image comes from a comic by artist Mat Brinkman within the 2000 to 2005 comic strip serial Multiforce,[1] published in a book in 2009. It was made in the same collection as Brinkman's infamous "Skeleton Jelly" comic, which was used in voiceover memes on YouTube[2] in 2011. The earliest known posting of the "Sir, This Is The Scariest Moment Of My Life" comic was uploaded to Reddit's /r/WTF[3] subreddit on May 1st, 2012, where it received over 995 upvotes over the course of 10 years (shown below).

I've got no skin! Sir, this is the scariest moment of my life. ... and then he exploded into bats.

Spread

The two-panel comic was reposted to multiple platforms like Imgur [4] and 4chan [5] going into the 2010s.

In 2020, the template started being used en masse, specifically on iFunny. On April 9th, 2020, iFunnyer[6] Liru posted a version that referenced the Yankee With No Brim, earning over 440 smiles in two years (shown below, left). On November 5th, 2020, iFunnyer[7] skizordrone posted a version that replaced the skinless man with a biblically accurate angel, additionally replacing the text in its speech bubble to read, 'Be Not Afraid', earning roughly 69,600 smiles in two years (shown below, right).

Yoo0o let me go Ive gol no Brim around
Be Not Afraid. Sir, this is the scariest moment of my life.

Following the "angel" iteration, the template received a spike in engagement going into 2021 and 2022 across social media platforms. For instance, on November 16th, 2020, Twitter [8] user BitchAssBowie replaced the scarred man's speech bubble to read, "The edible kicking in fr fr," earning roughly 2,500 likes in two years (shown below, left). On November 17th, 2020, Tumblr[9] blog kristina100000 posted a version that referenced the Damn Shawty, OK! template (shown below, right).
