About

Google Flow, also known as Google Veo 3 AI Video Generator, is an artificial intelligence filmmaking tool released by Google in mid-May 2025. The AI video generator combines other Google tools such as Veo for video generation, Imagen for image generation and Gemini for text and prompting to power the system. Online, videos using the AI tool spawned debates, memes and criticism on Twitter / X, TikTok and Reddit as the new technology garnered attention online.

History

Flow was announced on May 20th, 2025, during the Google I/O 2025 developer conference,[1] alongside its suite of generative AI tools. According to Google's blog post[2] about the tool, Flow is "built by and for creatives, and it’s the only AI filmmaking tool custom-designed for Google’s most advanced models — Veo, Imagen and Gemini."

A video was also shared on YouTube[3] showing the tool's capabilities, which received more than 69,000 views and 2,100 likes in a day.

Features

According to The Verge,[4] Flow allows people to use "text-to-video prompts and ingredients-to-video prompts (basically, sharing a few images that Flow can use alongside a prompt to help inform the model what you’re looking for) to build eight-second AI-generated clips."

The website also explained that Google's new AI tool "seems kind of like a film editing app, but for building AI-generated videos."

Online Reactions

Google's Flow quickly spawned discussions and memes on social media, most specifically some of the promotional videos showing the tools' features, following its debut in late May 2025.

For instance, on May 20th, 2025, X[5] user @arikuschnir posted a video that used Google's Veo 3 AI-video generation, captioning "it blew my mind now that it can do sound." The video (seen below) amassed more than 713,000 views and 5,400 likes in a day.

On the same day, TikTok[6] user @heysirio posted a video explaining some of the features in Google's AI-video filmmaking tool. The post (seen below) amassed roughly 101,000 plays and 4,900 likes in a day.
