Borderlands is a 2024 adventure comedy film based on the video game series of the same name. The live-action movie stars Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart and Jack Black as treasure hunters on an off-world planet rumored to hide a massive treasure trove. On May 14th, 2021, Borderlands, a film based on the video game series of the same name, was announced.[1] In June 2021, the main cast of the film was then released, with Cate Blanchett playing Lilith, Kevin Hart playing Roland, Jack Black voicing Claptrap the robot and Jamie Lee Curtis playing Tannis.[2]

On July 20th, 2023, the premiere date for the film was announced, set to release on August 9th, 2024.[3]

On February 20th, 2024, People[4] published the first-look article on the movie teasing images of the main characters. On that day, X[5] / Twitter user @Wario64 posted images from the article, with the post gaining over 2,000 reposts and 16,000 likes in one day (shown below).

On February 21st, 2024, the first official trailer for Borderlands was released on the Lionsgate Movies YouTube channel, accumulating over 300,000 views in three hours (shown below).[8]

The movie was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics and audiences. The film debuted on Rotten Tomatoes[12] with a 0% rating based on 10 critic reviews before climbing to a 9% rating with over 100 reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film had a 50% audience score with over 500 verified reviews as of August 12th, 2024. On IMDb,[13] the film had a 4.4 average user rating based on over 6,500 reviews.

I love that this movie is coming out years after Borderlands was relevant. Who is this even for? Borderlands fans are jaded by how bad/mediocre everything post-Borderlands 2 was. Is this gonna be like the Halo TV show where they're hoping everyone who hasn't played the games it's based on will like it?

Were living in a timeline where Video Game adaptations are becoming successful because they are faithful to the source material, but this movie does not. Its so baffling to see all the actors being seriously miscasted (especially Kevin Hart), tried to be like the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the fact that Randy "Mysterio" Pitchford tried to make a shitty excuse with "O h j u s t g i v e i t a w a t c h !", really says about the movie's quality. Mind you that this is the same guy that tried to defend the suicidal acid bath that was Aliens: Colonial Marines and its controversy. Congratulations to you, Randy "Cobra Commander" Pitchford, you made a fool of yourself once again. No wonder why you were exposed for having NSFW pornograchic images in your USB stick.
