About

Dinosaur is a webcomic series in which dinosaur characters talk to each other about various issues and share their insecurities. The series often comment on modern sociopolitical issues and explores themes such as relationships, mental disorders and personal struggles.

History

On August 11th, 2020, Instagram[1] account dinosandcomics started posting Dinosaur comics about dinosaur characters talking to each other about various issues and sharing their insecurities. The earliest currently available comic in the series received[2] over 1,800 likes on Instagram in four months (shown below).

On September 12th and September 24th, 2020, Twitter[3] and Facebook[4] accounts for the series were created. On October 1st, website dinosandcomics[5] was launched.

The comic achieved viral success on Twitter when on September 14th, the account[6] posted a comic in which a stegosaurus said "Fuck J. K. Rowling." The post (shown below) received over 11,100 retweets and 38,500 likes in three months. On September 20th, the account[7] posted a comic that received over 76,200 retweets and 297,500 likes in the same period(shown below, right).

In late September 2020, multiple comics posted by the account went viral on Twitter, surpassing the 200,000 likes mark. For example, a comic posted[8] on September 23rd, 2020, received over 158,600 retweets and 670,000 likes (shown below).

Reception

Following the viral success of Dinosaur on Twitter in late September 2020, the comic accrued a significant number of followers across all platforms. As of December 4th, 2020, Dinosaur had over 613,400 followers on Twitter, 335,000 followers on Instagram and 53,200 followers on Facebook.
