About
Johnny Bravo is an American television series created by Van Partible for Cartoon Network. The name Johnny Bravo is a take on the creator's full name, which is Efram Giovanni Bravo Partible.[4]
Premise
The show focuses on the life of our main protagonist Johnny Bravo who is voiced by Jeff Bennet.[2] He is a dimwitted muscular blonde who styles his hair in a pompadour while being base off of iconic singer Elvis Presley and Fonzie from Happy Days.[5] Set in Aron City, Johnny in lives with his Momma, Bunny Bravo, who treats him as if he were still a little child. Episodes usually follow Johnny trying to woo a woman to go on a date with him, and much to his dismay, ends up rejected by the woman in question who then proceed to cause harm to him in comedic way. Johnny encounters various other characters throughout the cartoon like: "Little Neighbor girl" Suzy, Carl Chryniszzswics, and Pops.
History
The shows first appearance started off as a pitch to Hanna-Barbera, premiering as a pilot short on the pilot show compilation What a Cartoon! in 1995.[1][5][6] Shortly afterwards, the cartoon followed up with two more shorts. With the sudden increase of popularity for these shorts, the network commissioned half-hour series that aired on July 14th, 1997.[1][5] Cartoon Network almost passed off on the show because it wasn't consisted "cartoony" enough, but three outstanding women at the network – Ellen Cockrill, Janet Mazotti, and Julie Kane-Ritsch – fought the show to be greenlit.[4] The series ran for a total of 4 season with 65 episodes, 2 specials, and a TV film that debut on November 4th, 2011.[1][5][7] Its final episode aired on August 27th, 2004.[1]
Reception
During it's first season, the crew that worked for Johnny Bravo consisted of Seth MacFarlane, Butch Hartman, Steve Marmel, John McIntyre, Rumen Petkov, Guy Moon, and Gary Lionelli.[1] During it's life span the show was nominated for 7 awards which include: three Annie Awards (1997, 1998, 2000), two Golden Reel Award (2001, 2004), one YoungStar Award (1999).[8] The series earned a rating of 7.3 on IMDb.[3]
