About
Megamind 2 or Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate refers to the upcoming Dreamworks animation film, intended as a sequel to the 2010 cult classic movie Megamind. Also announced alongside the sequel movie was the TV series Megamind Rules!, coinciding with the release of a trailer in early 2024. Following the announcements, Megamind fans reacted generally unfavorably towards the new movie, citing different voice acting and animation, as well as a perceived difference in writing from the original. The film and TV show are set to be released on Peacock on March 1st, 2024.
History
Rumors of a sequel to the 2010 cult meme classic film Megamind began on February 11th, 2022, when it was announced that Peacock would be creating a series featuring the characters, originally entitled Megamind’s Guide To Defending Your City. According to The Sun,[2] Alan Schoolcraft and Brent Simons, writers of the original film, would be returning as showrunners.
The announcement of the series led to speculation that there would also be a movie sequel to Megamind. However, this was not confirmed until February 1st, 2024, when DreamWorks Animation released the first trailer for a Megamind sequel, entitled Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate. Released on the @Dreamworks official X[1] (formerly Twitter) account, the trailer received two million views, 3,500 likes and over 2,000 reposts in two days (shown below).

The sequel would be followed by the previously announced Megamind series, now renamed to Megamind Rules. Both are set to release on Peacock Kids on March 1st, 2024.
Online Presence
Following the release of the trailer, Megamind fans showed an overwhelming dislike of the upcoming movie. The original post by @Dreamworks received nearly six hundred comments, many of which viewed the trailer very unfavorably. One frequent target of discussion was the perceived decrease in animation quality. For instance, on February 2nd, 2024, X[3] user @fratboychester reposted a clip, comparing the graphics of the film to Paw Patrol. The X post received 226 likes and 18 reposts in a day (seen below).

Movie poster parodies
The movie poster was the subject to several parodies, depicting a variety of characters as the "versus" that Megamind would be fighting. They seemed to echo the perception that the enemy was rather arbitrarily chosen.
