Overview

Plus-Sized Elf refers to the manga and anime series also known as Erufu-san wa Yaserarenai or "Ms. Elf Can't Lose Weight." The manga follows an elf named Elfuda in her quest to lose the weight she gained as a result of a french-fry heavy diet in the human realm. The original manga series, written and illustrated by Synecdoche was first published between 2016 and 2021, with an anime adaptation set to premiere in 2024.

History

Plus Sized Elf, written and illustrated by Synecdoche, was first published digitally on Comic Gum started December 2016 until June 2020. The manga's 46th and 47th chapters were then released on Synecdoche's X (formerly Twitter) account in April and May 2021.^[1][2] Akita Shoten took over the manga's publishing rights in 2021.

The Japanese title of the manga is "Erufu-san wa Yaserarenai," which literally translates to "Ms. Elf Can't Lose Weight." The story follows the protagonist Elfuda as she consults a dietician named Tomoatsu Nao for help losing weight in order to fit through a portal that will return her to the elf world. Tomoatsu helps Elfuda and a host of other mythical characters with their weight issues.

In January 2024, speculation about Plus Sized Elf getting an anime adaptation led to Synecdoche and Akita Shoten announcing that the anime was set to premier in 2024. A poster containing a teaser visual for the animation was published on January 15th, 2024.^[3]

On January 15th, 2024, X^[5] user @brzrkr_senpai posted a meme comparing Plus Sized Elf to Frieren, saying, "I'm so fucking ready for the plus sized elf anime, man. Y'all are about to see a REAL anime about an autistic elf soon" (seen below, left). Also on January 15th, 2024, X^[6] user @mainmajin quoted a post about Plus- Sized Elf saying, "Others might see this and scroll away but ik a certain demographic that won’t play abt this," gathering over 5,000 likes in two days (seen below, right).
