About

The Life of a Showgirl is the 12th studio album by Taylor Swift, set to be released on October 3rd, 2025. The album consists of 12 tracks and includes a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter on the titled track, "The Life of a Showgirl." It was announced by Swift on August 12th, 2025. The album's announcement inspired a series of memes in which the title of the album is used alongside photos and videos that look to ironically and genuinely fit the aesthetic of the album's cover art, which features Taylor Swift in "showgirl" attire reminiscent of Las Vegas performers, burlesque performers and chorus girls, including sequined, revealing dresses and feathers. The album released to mixed reviews in early October, with many internet users highlighting the song "Actually Romantic" as a supposed diss track directed at Charli xcx.

Reception

The album was released on October 3rd to mixed reviews, with Chief Music Critic at Variety Chris Willman giving the album a perfect rating,[11] calling it a "such a contagiously joyful record, even her score-settling detours sound sunny." Maya Georgie from Rolling Stone gave the album a perfect rating as well,[12] saying, "Swift hits all her marks -- from new, exciting sonic turns to incisive storytelling."

Other critics had more negative reviews of Swift's 12th studio album, with Walden Green writing a review of "Actually Romantic" for Pitchfork,[13] writing, "One of the main cogs in the Swiftian songwriting machine is spite, and it’s getting pretty rusty." Alexis Petridis from The Guardian also gave the album a two-star rating, calling it, "dull razzle-dazzle from a star who seems frazzled."
