About
Vita Carnis is an Analog Horror series by Darian Quilloy that chronicles an alternate timeline where strange living fleshy organisms called the Crawl appear on Earth in the 1930’s. The series shows how society has adjusted to these new invasive organisms as well as the different types of fauna spawned from the Crawl. [1]
Species
The Crawl
The Crawl (Scandere Carnis) – A fungus-like entity that latches onto a solid surface, usually buildings. They look like blood red roots and are very resilient to weather and such. They are known for being nutritious and beneficial for crops, turning into rich compost for plants. It is also the main source of reproduction among the Carnis creatures, as it can produce a great majority of the other species.
Trimmings
Trimmings (Ignavus Carnis) – Small creatures that resemble a cross between a crab and a mole rat that are developed from a nodule on the Crawl. They mainly consume carrion. They are considered mostly harmless and may enjoy human company. People have taken to turning them into pets. From Season 2 of Vita Carnis, it can be inferred that Trimmings have a hive mind, and different Trimming colonies, even if isolated, can learn things from each other through this hive mind.
Meat Snakes
Meat Snakes (Mutuari Carnis) – Carnivorous snakes who mainly eat deceased creatures to grow and are famous for wearing the skulls of their victims. When a Meat Snake reaches a substantial size, and finds itself in the correct conditions, it will commence mitosis. After completely cloning all genetics of its structure and creating a new twin, the two entities will go their separate ways as different organisms
Mimics
Mimics (Trucidatum Carnis) – Carnivorous humanoid entities who primarily attack and eat humans. They are highly intelligent and are known for disguising themselves as humans or hiding in furniture to surprise their intended victims. The more they predate on humans, the more that they seem to blend into the species, though with glaring imperfections if you're looking for them. Mimics that have an overabundance of human flesh become taller and physically tougher, becoming what is known as an Elder Mimic, the world's apex predator. They're seemingly the main antagonists and mascots of the Vita Carnis series.
Harvesters
Harvesters (Congregentur Carnis) – Large lumps of flesh that burrow themselves in the ground and use their roots to surprise victims and inject a toxin that makes them die of blood-loss, and another toxin that paralyses the victim. If someone is in an area with lots of vegetation, more than usual, but there's no animals in sight, chances are they are in an area with Harvesters.
Hosts
The Hosts Of Influence (Imperium Carnis) – Entities that have a humanoid appearance and burrow themselves in the ground. On their backs are spikes that release orange spores which are capable of temporarily hypnotizing other animals to go to the hosts, in order for them to feed. If the animal/individual doesn't make it to the host within a time frame of 36 hours the effects will wear off.
Monoliths
Monoliths (Coelum Carnis) – Entities that are 120 meters tall (393.701 feet) and usually root themselves in a circle (presumably in service of the Singularity) and are invulnerable to pain. They seemingly popped up a few decades after all the other members of the Vita Carnis. Although towering, they are harmless, unless approached. There are only 7 Monoliths in existence. The Monoliths are located in a circular position a kilometer away from each other, in formation for a grander purpose.
Singularities *
Singularities (Verum Carnis) – A sub-species of powerful entities who are the supposed head of the creatures who can interfere with electric signals. There are seven known Singularities. Information on them is scarce, but the Singularity is likely the thing the Monoliths are surrounding. Following the release of the new season, it is found that the Singularity turns corpses of creatures into Crawl, heavily implying that the Singularity are behind the creation and spread of the other Vita Carnis species.
