About

Sus Remix also found sometimes under Gay Remix refers to a genre of Meme Rap music in which popular songs are Remixed to be incredibly Gay, which is often referred to as Sus. Online, Sus Remixes have become very popular both as musical expression and for use in Bait-and-Switch videos.

Origin

Gay remixes of songs have existed for as long as remixing music has been around, with the Internet helping to spread the idea around. One of the earliest popular online examples comes from the musical creator Rucka Rucka Ali with his song Emo (Like A Nazi) parodying Paparazzi by Lady Gaga. The song, originally uploaded[1] on May 21st, 2010 but consistently deleted and re-uploaded over the years, is not focused on being Gay, but has many mentions of gayness within it (shown below).

The concept of Sus Remixes really took off following the release of Sicko Mode by Travis Scott featuring Drake. On November 22nd, 2017, the SoundCloud Rapper Kusorare[2] uploaded Dicko Mode, a completely Sus Remix that is heavily Sus with every line, which would be removed and reuploaded several times over the following years (re-upload shown below).

Spread

On December 11th, 2018, the Guitar Hero streamer Acai uploaded a video[3] of himself playing a remixed version of Dicko Mode in which only the Drake verse is Sus to his YouTube channel, where it earned over 40 million views in five years and helped popularize Sus remixes (shown below).

In 2021, an entire YouTube channel group called We The Sus Music was created, parodying the name of DJ Khaled's music studio We The Best Music. The group's first upload, a remix of a Dream song called Mask uploaded on their official YouTube[4] channel on May 26th, 2021, would quickly gain over 17 million views in two years (shown below).
