"Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" is a song by 80s pop duo Eurythmics. Arguably the group's most popular single, it has been covered numerous times, notably by Marilyn Manson, and became a popular song in remixes and parodies in the 2000s.

Origin

"Sweet Dreams" was released as a single on April 10th, 1983, off Eurythmics' album of the same name.^[1] The song reached number 1 in the UK charts and the Billboard Hot 100. Its music video received heavy airplay on MTV. Uploaded to YouTube on October 25th, 2009, the video has received over 330 million views (shown below).

The song was covered by Marilyn Manson for his 1995 cover EP Smells Like Children. This was Manson's first hit, and its music video has been noted for being one of the scariest ever (shown below).

The song has been covered by numerous artists, and cover videos have grown popular on YouTube. Popular videos include an a capella version by Holly Henry that gained over 8.7 million views (shown below, left) and a string version by Simply Three that gained over 1.9 million views (shown below, right).

The song has also grown popular in animation and humor videos. One of the most popular humorous videos to use the song is "Bears Dance to Sweet Dreams – Remastered," posted by WormBurn December 16th, 2016 that gained over 3.7 million views (shown below, left). An animation meme by Eichman posted March 18th, 2019 gained over 110,000 views (shown below, right).

Sweet Dreams but I Put Kahoot Music Over It refers to a remix of the quiz song from learning platform Kahoot! overdubbed with "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These)" by Eurythmics. The remix was posted to YouTube in late 2017 before inspiring remixes of its own in the spring of 2019. On November 22nd, 2017 YouTuber zacj posted "sweet dreams but i put kahoot music over it," a remix blending the Eurythmics track "Sweet Dreams" and the quiz music from learning platform Kahoot! The video gained over 1.8 million views.

On April 27th, 2019, the video ""sweet dreams but i put kahoot music over it" but I fixed the tempo" by SupaSimon was posted on YouTube. The video gained 344,000 views (shown below, left). Following that video, other YouTubers began remixing the "Sweet Dreams" / Kahoot! remix. On May 3rd, 2019, YouTuber EpikPerson posted a juxtaposition of the mashup with the Joker Gun meme (shown below, right).
