Sweetie, I Love You Both Equally or Mom, Who Is Your Favorite? refers to a webcomic by SrGrafo where a daughter asks her mother if she or her brother is her favorite. The mother says she loves them both equally, then pulls the son in, telling him he's the favorite. The comic was posted to Reddit in January 2019 and became an exploitable over the following years as a way of saying one thing is better than another as people photoshopped different aspects of it.

Origin

On January 29th, 2019, webcomic artist and Redditor SrGrafo posted a new comic to /r/comics^[1] where two children stand by their mother. The daughter asks their mother who she loves most. The mom responds, "Sweetie, I love you both equally," then the daughter walks away. She then embraces the son and says, "It's you… and by a lot." The post gained over 25,900 upvotes in four years.

On January 30th, a Redditor posted an edit of the comic to /r/ShitPostCrusaders,^[2] garnering over 880 upvotes in just under four years (shown below). This is the earliest known edit of the comic.

Spread

The format saw increased use over the following years as a way of showing a preference between two things. On August 18th, 2019, Twitter^[3] user @nixcraft posted a version of the meme about Windows vs. Linux, garnering over 940 likes in three years. On January 6th, 2020, Imgur^[4] user MigatteNoG0kui posted an edit of the comic about consoles vs. PC garnering over 133,000 views in just under three years (shown below).

On April 19th, an /r/MemeEconomy^[5] user asked for a template for the meme, garnering over 7,400 upvotes in two years. On April 2nd, 2021, Instagram^[6] user baconofminecraft posted a version of the meme about Minecraft, garnering over 34,000 likes in a year (shown below, left). On June 11th, a version of the meme about Instagram vs. Reddit was posted to /r/memes,^[7] garnering over 27,000 upvotes in a year (shown below, right).
