SYFM is a slang acronym and term for Shut Your Fucking Mouth, which stems from a viral video of a British man screaming, "Shut your fucking mouth!" The sound became the subject of video memes on TikTok in mid-2025. Creators added the SYFM audio to clips of children performing stand-up comedy or singing. One notable iteration showed a kid comedian on America's Got Talent. The acronym is based on the precursor term SYBAU. The original SYFM video is a clip from the 2008 film Bronson, starring actor Tom Hardy as Charles Bronson.

Origin

On March 13th, 2009, the film Bronson was released in theaters in the U.K.^[1] In one scene, actor Tom Hardy as Charles Bronson screams at a prison guard, "Shut your fucking mouth!" The scene was posted by YouTuber^[2] MuqriBlue on February 22nd, 2022, gaining over 77,700 views in three years (shown below).

On May 24th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @aneurinaustin used the scene in a meme with a caption reading, "That one friend [who] constantly talks about their ex," receiving over 45,300 likes in three years (shown below).

The audio resurfaced en masse in late May 2025, when multiple TikTokers added the soundbite to videos of children telling cringeworthy stand-up jokes.

The earliest known example was shared by TikToker^[4] @morphelius.wetness on May 26th, which showed a kid comedian being interrupted by the "Shut Your Fucking Mouth" audio. The video's caption read, "Bro's dad was having none of that," including the Dead Rose Emoji. In a week, the video amassed roughly 1.1 million likes (shown below).

On May 28th, 2025, TikToker^[5] @johngigglefart shared an iteration, also featuring a child comedian. The text overlay joked about the kid's dad not being happy with the joke, likening him to the person screaming, "Shut your fucking mouth!" Over five days, the video received roughly 417,800 likes (shown below).

On May 29th, TikToker^[6] @14__fg__14 posted an iteration, showing the kid comedian Nathan Bockstahler on America's Got Talent. The SYFM audio plays at the end of his joke. The video gained over 1.7 million likes in four days (shown below).

On May 30th, 2025, TikToker^[8] @javiflexq posted an iteration with the Yeah We Fancy Like Denny's video, gaining over 2.2 million likes in three days (shown below).

On June 1st, TikToker^[7] @boomy090 posted a photo slideshow, showing the 'SYBAU 💔' Lazer Dim 700 image, which replaced SYBAU with SYFM. The TikToker wrote, "New slang," in text overlay (shown below). In a day, the slideshow gained roughly 497,900 likes.
