Tempting… But Ima Go X, also written Beautiful, But I Have To X, refers to a phrasal template and exploitable image macro that uses two screencaps from the fourth Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 1, filmed in 2011. In the two-panel template, Edward (played by Robert Pattinson) covers up Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) laying down in bed, suggesting that he's passing on sex for a better or different activity, like playing video games. The template was first used on Instagram in 2018, spreading over the following years.

Origin

The fourth Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn – Part 1, was released in theaters on November 18th, 2011.^[1] In the movie, there's a scene where Robert Pattinson's character, Edward, and Kristen Stewart's character, Bella, are both lying in bed. Edward is sitting upright, looking over at Bella lying down on her stomach. Edward looks at Bella whose body is visible and gently puts the covers over her.

A seven-minute clip from the movie was uploaded to YouTube^[2] on April 6th, 2020, by YouTuber Cecilia Manoilova (shown below). At the 6:08 timestamp, the aforementioned scene takes place. The video's received roughly 4,200 views over two years.

Memes using the two screencaps from the movie appeared in 2013, such as the one pictured below that was posted to AcidCow.com^[3] in December 2014.

Between 2014 and 2018, the template was used primarily in Spanish-speaking meme circles. However, many of the original links to these Spanish memes are no longer accessible. The one shown below, for instance, was uploaded to imgrum.net^[4] in May 2016.

In August 2018, Instagrammer^[5] memika_ops posted a meme (shown below) that captioned the two images with, "tempting… / but ima go game." However, memika_ops has since deleted the original post on her Instagram. An August 2018 origin, however, is evident in the first known repost to Twitter^[6] from Twitter user yeahboyega (who has since been banned). However, memika_ops's watermark is evident in the meme below.

Spread

Variants of the template appeared on sites like iFunny in early 2019. iFunnier^[7] issagold posted a variant on February 6th of that year (shown below), making a joke about stealing from Walmart. The meme received 215 smiles after being posted.

A new phrasal template emerged using the two screencaps in 2019 that read, "Beautiful / But I have to X." For instance, the one shown below was posted to Tumblr ^[8] in 2019 by lamperouge. It received roughly 14,700 notes over the course of two years.
