This Is Feminism is an exploitable image series using on a webcomic depicting feminism as friendly to men. The comic also spawned a photoshop series in which the woman is shown holding gun while saying "Some Crimes Can Never Be Forgiven."
Origin
In June 2013, the bilbos-buttons Tumblr posted a webcomic in which a woman holding a sign placing women above men captioned with the phrase "This is not feminism" above an illustration of a woman shaking hands with a man captioned with "This is feminism" (shown below). The original post has since been deleted but was archived in reblogs by the bilbos-buttons-blog[5] and MemeArchives[1] Tumblr blogs. Over the next five years, the post received more than 244,000 notes.
Spread
On October 31st, 2013, the original webcomic was featured on 9gag. On September 25th, 2014, Twitter user @BarnesGunner[4] tweeted the comic, which gathered more than 15,800 likes and 13,600 retweets over the next four years. On July 30th, 2014, an edit of the comic in which the worm "feminism" is replaced with "equality" in the bottom panel was submitted to the /pol/ board on 4chan[8] (shown below, left). On April 27th, 2015, the Colorful Memes Facebook[6] page posted an edit of the comic with Reptilian Humanoids (shown below, right). Within three years, the post garnered upwards of 300 likes.
On July 19th, 2017, the ShitpostBot 5000 Twitter[2] feed posted an edit of the image featuring a photograph of Filthy Frank (shown below, left). On August 28th, the bot tweeted[3] another edit of the image featuring a screencap of Lisa Simpson (shown below, right).
On January 12th, 2018, BuzzFeed[7] community contributor cuttlecrab submitted a list titled "Problems With Anti-Feminist Stuff," which highlighted an edit of the comic in which the woman has the man arrested for rape for shaking her hand (shown below).
Some Crimes Can Never Be Forgiven
On March 16th, 2016, the antifeminism27 blog posted an edit of the final panel in the comic, in which the man apologizes for "being a man" and the woman replies "It's ok, just don't do it again" (shown below, left). On June 10th, 2017, Tumblr [11] user doomsneigh submitted another edit in which the woman is shown saying "Some crimes can never be forgiven," where it garnered more than 53,000 notes (shown below, right).
On March 19th, 2018, Twitter user @dicknenbow[9] tweeted a photoshopped version of the panel with the words "This is Gay Rights" displayed at the top (shown below). Within nine months, the tweet received upwards of 10,200 likes and 3,700 retweets.
On April 13th, Redditor mayyzy submitted an anti-meme version of the panel to /r/bonehurtingjuice,[10] where it received upwards of 6,000 points (99% upvoted) and 130 comments prior to being archived.
