About

This Is My Emergency Contact, also known as My Emergency Contact Trend, refers to a viral trend in which users share funny videos of their partners, who are listed as their emergency contacts, showcasing the often humorous, childish and questionable choices they make in designating who will hold this role in their lives. The trend started in late January 2025, particularly on TikTok and later on Instagram Reels.

Origin

On January 31st, 2025, TikTok[1] user @paiz2610 posted a video humorously showing her husband playing with a yoga ball, writing “Realizing I changed my emergency contact from my mom to this man.” The video amassed over 28 million plays and 5.7 million likes in a week (seen below).

Spread

In the following days, numerous TikTok users joined in on the trend, sharing their own "emergency contact" candidates using the caption alongside humorous examples of their boyfriends, husbands or partners doing objectively dumb things in contrast to the seriousness of listing them as their emergency contacts.

For instance, on February 10th, 2025, TikTok user @sullivang[2] posted a video of her partner playing in the snow (seen below), captioning “my emergency contact,” which amassed over 68 million plays and 8 million likes in three days.

The trend became popular all over the world, as TikTok[3] user @carolinadiazof posted on February 10th, 2025, a Spanish-captioned written “Mi contacto de emergencia,” which amassed over 12 million plays and 1 million likes in three days.
