Toss a Coin to Your Witcher refers to a song from The Witcher Netflix series performed by character Jaskier. Following the release of the series, the song gained popularity online and has been widely used in memes about the series.

Origin

On November 14th, 2019, in an interview to Turkish magazine Episode,^[1] The Witcher Netflix series composers Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli revealed the titles of several compositions recorded for show and performed by the character Jaskier. One of the compositions was revealed to be "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher". On November 23rd, blog Redanian Intelligence^[2] posted a translation of the interview. On December 6th, 2019, the song was made available for streaming on SoundCloud,^[3] where it received over 147,000 streams in three weeks, with several YouTube^[4][5][6] reuploads gaining an additional 2 million views in three weeks.

On December 20th, 2019, The Witcher series premiered. In the series, the song is first performed by bard Jaskier in episode two "Four Marks" of season one.

Following the premiere of the series, the song received viral spread online, with users on Twitter, Reddit, Facebook and other platforms making posts about the song and utilizing it in memes. For example, a December 21st, 2019, Turn Up the Volume post by Twitter^[7] user @964IIG received over 1,200 retweets and 3,100 likes (shown below, left). A December 22nd, 2019, fan art by Tumblr^[8] user fish-in-the-aquarium received over 5,700 likes and reblogs (shown below, right).

Additionally, localized versions of the song (shown below, left and right) received viral spread among Russian and Polish users.
