About
Trump Body Count is a conspiracy theory that United States President Donald Trump ordered the assassinations of numerous political enemies and eyewitnesses to secure power and protect themselves from legal prosecution. While the conspiracy theory was started as a type of rebuttal to the Clinton Body Count conspiracy theory, in August 2019, following the death of Jeffrey Epstein, the hashtag #TrumpBodyCount began trending on Twitter with some speculating about Trump's involvement in his death.
Origin
Between 2016 and 2019, the phrase Trump Body Count appeared on various social platforms in several contexts. The earliest known usage of the phrase and hashtag was published on August 9th, 2016 by Twitter [1] user @olfashdeb who compared it to the "Clinton Body Count" (shown below).
The following year, on September 5th, 2017, EliteTrader.com[2] message board user exGOPer published a "starter list" on the Trump Body Count. Each of the examples contains a hyperlink to articles intended to support the conspiracy theory. They wrote:
Jerry Doyle says Trump is "all icing and no cake", Jay Thomas calls Trump a "fucking idiot", "TRUMP is a greater threat to the USA than terrorists", Chris Cornell reunites Audioslave for "Anti-Inaugural Ball": dead
Malcolm Nance says the world sees Trump as a clown show, Bachelorette contestant Michael Nance is dead at 31 (whoops, someone misread the memo).
Garry Shandling makes fun of Trump talking about his penis, Trump friend Mitch Huhem "commits suicide"
"Mysterious helicopter crash" kills three Trump executives. What did they know?
Prince (with Morris Day and the motherfuckin' Time) writes Donald Trump (Black Version) "mysteriously dies."
Spread
Over the next three years, the Trump Body Count garnered a variety of meanings. Some used it to describe political figures and who had died, alleging Trump's involvement (shown below, left). Others used it to describe the people who were directly affected by President Trump's immigration policies (shown below, right).
Jeffrey Epstein's Suicide
On August 10th, 2019, officials reported that Epstein was found dead after hanging himself in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City. That day, the hashtag #TrumpBodyCount[3] began trending on Twitter worldwide, with many speculating that Trump had ordered a hit on Epstein to prevent him from exposing evidence against his involvement in his alleged sex trafficking operations (examples below).
