Waves Hairstyle Photoshops, also known as Wave Check and Waves and Air Pods, refer to digitally edited images in which the subject has a curly hairstyle known as "waves" superimposed over their original hair. Often paired with photoshopped AirPods, the edits are considered a development of the AirPod Flexing meme.

Origin

On January 5th, 2019, Instagram^[1] user professorpumpp posted a photograph of Martin Luther King wearing Apple AirPods. On the same day, professorpumpp^[2] posted a photoshopped image of former United States President Barack Obama wearing AirPods and a wave haircut. The post gained over 8,400 likes in nine days.

On January 9th, 2019, Instagram^[3] user pinkmeth.v2 posted a similarly edited photograph of United States president Donald Trump with a reference to Gummo's song "Drip or Drown" in the description. The post gained over 1,400 likes within five days; additionally, a repost^[4] by professorpumpp gained 13,500 likes within the same period.

In the following days, pinkmeth.v2^[5] and other Instagram users^[6][7] posted more edits in which various individuals were given AirPods and the waves hairstyle, with references to "dripping" often included in the description.
