What X Looks Like Vs. How X Draws Them also known as This Is My Gripe refers to a redraw trend that grew popular in February 2024. After X / Twitter artist @peloriq posted an image showing what they think weasels look like vs how they see weasels drawn in cartoons, various artists began to post parody versions of the image. These images typically showed an animal or item in real life compared to a stylized version in popular media.
Origin
On February 11th, 2024, X[1] user @peloriq posted an image comparing two drawings of weasels, one more realistic labelled as "What weasels look like," and one more cartoonish labeled as "How western cartoonists usually draw them." The image was captioned, "This is my gripe," gathering over 50,000 likes in a week (seen below).
Spread
On February 11th, X[2] user @Nebla_idk posted a version of the image comparing what birds look like and how "Angry" cartoonists draw them. The image gathered over 18,000 likes in eight days (seen below, top). Also on February 11th, X[3] user @von_cosmo posted a version of the image comparing sea sponges in real life to SpongeBob SquarePants, gathering over 57,000 likes in a week (seen below, bottom).
On February 12th, X[4] user @ess_n_stuffs posted a version of the image comparing what raccoons look like with how "Regular" artists draw them, in reference to the show Regular Show. The image gathered over 43,000 likes in a week (seen below, top). On the same day, X[5] user @Mania4lyf3 compared hedgehogs in real life to Sonic the Hedgehog, gathering over 3,000 likes in a day (seen below, bottom).
