"What's That? What's a Father?" XXXTentacion refers to an interview clip of late rapper XXXTentacion in which he's asked, "Do you have any relationship with your father?" to which he responds, "What's that? What's a father?" The clip was widely mocked in early 2025 when it resurfaced on Twitter / X and TikTok. Many found the clip corny and cringe. It became an exploitable and a snowclone in the following weeks as people used the screencap of XXXTentacion staring blankly at the interviewer for image macros and tweets, giving his quote new meaning by replacing the words in the phrasal template, "What's That? What's an X?" commonly written with the heartbreak, broken heart emoji (💔).
Origin
On November 22nd, 2022, The Fader released In His Own Words: XXXTentacion, an unreleased interview with rapper XXXTentacion from 2017.[1] At the documentary's 31:24-minute mark (YouTube[2] repost shown below), the interviewer asks XXXTentacion, "Do you have any relationship with your father?" to which he responds, "What's that? What's a father?"

The clip was reposted on social media in the following years, like on April 22nd, 2024, TikToker[3] @1400_9990 shared it, gaining over 161,600 likes in 10 months (shown below).

On January 31st, 2025, Instagram[4] user @mistxxked posted the clip as a Reel, receiving over 36,500 likes in three days.
On January 31st, X[5] user @dearwfe tweeted, "XXXTentacion was corny as hell when he was alive," receiving over 36,000 likes in three days. Later on the day, X[6] user @dearwfe quote tweeted himself, attaching Instagram[4] user @mistxxked's Reel. He captioned it, "Like bruh," gaining over 167,000 likes in three days (shown below).

On February 2nd, 2025, X[7] user @slayworldalby tweeted a screencap of XXXTentaction from the video and added a caption that turned his quote into a phrasal template. The tweet joked about the interviewer asking XXXTentaction, "Do you know who Big Chungus is?" to which he responds, "What's that 💔?" The tweet amassed over 28,000 likes in a day (shown below).
The XXXTentaction "What's a father?" video also gained memetic spread on TikTok. For instance, on February 2nd, TikToker[8] @whiteboykiann posted a 99.99% Accuracy Reenactment of the clip, gaining over 179,100 likes in a day (shown below).

On February 2nd, 2025, TikToker[9] @xojunior posted a video that riffed on the Druski Dancing and TS PMO ICL meme formats, showing the slang abbreviation, "WAF" meaning "What's a father?" The video received roughly 71,300 likes in a day (shown below).
