Wimpy Kid Relationship Chart, also known as Trying To Keep Up With Instagram Mutual Beef Like, refers to parodies and exploitable memes inspired by a "Relationship Chart" drawn by the character Greg Heffley in the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel. Released in 2012, the chart has since been relabeled and redrawn to show relationship dynamics in different circles both online and in real life.

Origin

The book "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel" was published on November 13th, 2012, and featured a drawing^[1] made by the book's protagonist Greg Heffley. The chart showed the interpersonal relationships with other middle schoolers in Greg's classes (seen below).

On August 9th, 2014, an unknown Redditor^[9] posted the earliest known parody or redraw of the aforementioned chart, gathering over 1,000 upvotes on a post in /r/pics (seen below).

The chart was posted to the /r/worldjerking^[2] subreddit on May 16th, 2021, and to /r/videogamedunkey^[3] on July 18th, 2021, where it gathered over 2,000 and 1,000 upvotes, respectively, in three years.

The earliest known record of the chart with the caption, "Trying to keep up with Instagram mutual beef like" is an iFunny^[4] post from December 5th, 2022, however, the image was likely posted to Instagram before this post. A December 21st, 2022 post by the Instagram^[5] page @austin_hood_classics edited the image to read, "Trying to keep up with Austin mutual beef like."

On March 30th, 2023, the Instagram^[6] page @fankylc posted the image as part of a slideshow, gathering over 5,900 likes in a year (seen below, right).

On February 20th, 2024, X^[7] user @Sharkfrot posted a version of the chart edited to reflect YouTubers like TwoMad, Vaush, F1nnster, Belle Delphine and Contrapoints.

Also on February 20th, X^[8] user @boymoderology posted an extended version of the chart, now featuring various famous trans people. The post gathered over 2,000 likes in two months (seen below, right).
