The emoji was used as a reaction image (shown below) accompanied by the caption "realizing when I'm acting like my father," amassing over 49,000 likes and 11,000 retweets in five months.

Spread

The emoji quickly became a prominent reaction image on X, typically being used to demonstrate inner feelings or judgmental emotions. For example, on September 6th, 2023, X^[2] user @DeadlyCreatorYT used the Yellow Emoji in Darkness meme to reply to a tweet about spoilers of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. The post (shown below, left) amassed roughly 690 likes in two months. On August 25th, X^[3] user @kik1nha used the image paired with the ironic caption in Portuguese that translates to "I came to school and forgot my phone…" The tweet amassed more than 17,000 likes and 4,200 retweets in three months (shown below, right).
