The trend was started on Twitter / X by user @imonlyhereforpikmin in late October 2025. It spread to sites including YouTube over the following months, becoming further popularized in April and May 2026 on TikTok.

On October 30th 2025, X^[1] / Twitter user imonlyhereforpikmin posted a picture on X featuring a character based on Wega and The Face with the text, "You found lost media / It's problematic media," gaining over 848,500 views and 4,600 likes in seven months.

The post references an in-joke from the user's YouTube channel, imonlyhereforpikmin, where he ironically calls Pikmin 2 "problematic media."^[2][3][4]

Later that day, the user posted a video version of the meme to X^[5] that features an edit of the song "Demons" by Imagine Dragons, which garnered over 1.2 million views and 20,000 likes in seven months.

The You Found Lost Media / It's Problematic Media meme began to spread in late 2025 into early 2026 as users created new versions of it.

For example, on December 2nd, 2025, YouTuber^[6] Swarajino posted a video following the format of the meme, garnering about 550 views in five months.

On April 2nd, 2026, SiIvaGunner posted a remix to YouTube^[7] of the Ironmouse song "Cry For Me" performed in the style of the music from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, gaining over 200,000 views and 11,000 likes in three days.

On April 28th, X^[8] user deathgobrr posted a video edit of the Luigi picture using the song from SiIvaGunner, garnering over 67,000 likes in a week.

On April 30th, 2026, X^[9] user @SeldomIam posted a version of the meme that features the character Jevil from Deltarune, garnering over 6,800 likes in five days.

The meme was further popularized on TikTok in May 2026 as it spread to the platform.

For example, on May 2nd, TikToker^[10] @ff07963 posted a version of the meme that uses characters from Five Nights at Freddy's, garnering over 2 million views in three days.
