About

Yuji Itadori Chasing Mahito AMVs refers to a series of anime music videos set to a scene from Jujutsu Kaisen where Itadori slowly chases Mahito, who is nearly defeated after their fight, by walking after him. The scene comes from episode 45 and became the subject of AMVs and memes following its release in December 2023, often set to the song "Skyfall" by Adele. The scene also inspired the Skyfall "Where You Go I Go" Fortnite Trend, set to the same song, in which Fortnite players use the Itadori skin combined with a walking emote, such as the Darth Vader walk, to chase a downed player, referencing the scene.

Origin

On September 23rd, 2023, TikToker[1] @kozz.off posted an AMV consisting of panels from chapters 129-132 of Jujutsi Kaisen, where Yuji Itadori fights Mahito, setting them to the song "Skyfall" by Adele, garnering over 3.2 million views in three months (shown below, left). Going forward, numerous AMVs and edits using the song in reference to the scene were posted to TikTok, including a November 21st post by TikToker[2] @rodney_edits809, who begins the scene with footage of a Fortnite player recreating Itadori's walk from the fight in Fortnite by using the Darth Vader walk emote to chase after a downed player, garnering over 500,000 views in a month (shown below, right). It is unconfirmed if this is the first instance of the Fortnite trend.

On December 14th, episode 45 of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series aired in Japan, adapting the fight from manga.[3] In the episode, Itadori fights against Mahito. At the end of the fight, with Mahito weak and down in the dirt, he begins to run from Yuji, who slowly chases him at a walking pace. This resulted in remakes of the TikTok AMV as early as December 14th, 2023. For example, on that day, YouTuber[4] A-V-3000 posted "Skyfall" AMV set to the scene, garnering over 100,000 views in six days. TikTokers[5][6] @kaguravf and @maderezs posted similar ones on the same day, garnering over 1.3 million and 4.3 million respectivelyviews in the same span of time. It is unclear who first remade the AMV with the anime scene.

Spread

The scene became increasingly popular on TikTok over the following days, inspiring memes, AMVs and further examples of memes where Fortnite players reference the scene. On December 16th, 2023, TikToker[7] @duderecroom posted a version of the meme where the Fortnite player does a different walking emote while the song plays, captioned, "I don't have the emote," garnering over 6 million views in four days (shown below, left). On December 17th, TikToker[8] @meepeditz posted a video recreating the AMVs in Minecraft, garnering over 4.4 million views in three days (shown below, right).
