About

Zucc is a nickname for Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg. The term is also used within internet slang as a blend of "Zucked" and "succ" and originally meant to essentially be screwed over by Mark Zuckerberg in some form.

Origin

On November 3rd, 2007, Urban Dictionary user Bentheguyfromcambridge submitted an entry for "Zuckerberg," defined as:

On May 22nd, 2014, Tumblr user woodmeat published a post with the message "she succ me thru my boxers." Within two years, the post gained over 11,000 notes. Soon after, Tumblr user Shagia uploaded an image of the Feels Guy with the caption of "she succ me thru my feel …." (shown below, right).

The rising popularity of "Succ" as a meme and the term "Zuck" as a verg eventually led to the two phrases being paired together to form "Zucc." On May 27th, 2016, the Facebook page "Fucc the Zucc" was launched, featuring image macros and photoshopped pictures of Mark Zuckerberg.

Spread

On June 6th, the Facebook Page "Utopian Raspberry – Modern Oasis Machine" posted a photoshopped image of Zuckerberg dancing captioned with the word "Zucc" (shown below, left). On June 27th, the Difficulty II Facebook page posted a Layers of Irony parody comic in which Mark Zuckerberg says "Zucc" to the Goose on Fire (shown below, right).

On August 10th, 2016 Urban Dictionary user NicholsSA submitted an entry for "zucc'd," an alternate spelling of the word "zucked" which gained popularity during Facebook's crackdown on Weird Facebook pages.

On October 10th, 2016, YouTuber punpun uploaded part of a Mark Zuckerberg Facebook Live stream in which he asks commenters to explain the "zucc thing" (shown below). That day, the video reached the front page of the /r/youtubehaiku subreddit. On September 20th, 2017, Dolan Darker uploaded a parody of Zuckerberg simply titled "ZUCC," gaining over 710,000 views (shown below, right).



Congressional Hearing Memes

On April 10th, 2018, Zuckerberg appeared before the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation to answer questions regarding Facebook's collection of users personal data in light of the Cambridge Analytics data breach. Many of the memes spread about the hearing characterized Zuckerberg as an emotionless, robotic android. Many of these were shared giving Zuckerberg the nickname "Zucc." On April 14th, 2018, YouTuber grandayy uploaded a parody of The Social Network titled "Zucc: The Movie," gaining over 210,000 views in less than one day (shown below, left). On April 12th, h3h3productions uploaded a parody of the hearings titled "ZUCC GETS ROASTED," gaining over 3.4 million views.

Ugandan Knuckles and Gru's Plan both lasted for well over a month which is always good considering the life span of a lot of memes recently. These memes only "died' in specific communities on Reddit, Twitter, YouTube and maybe some smaller ones elsewhere that claim that memes shouldn't last longer than or that they can't be good after a week.

Moving on though, Zucc is more of an event meme which means that it doesn't really "die" but rather fades until the next big thing happens with it's source material (in this case Mark Zuckerberg).
