![Fire Emblem Fates - Nishiki X Aqua The first thing to mention is how the localizers have made a mistake in their translation. They translate原っぱ("harappa" or "open field") to葉っぱ(happa" or "leaves"). Which is why Kaden/ Nishiki rolls around in leaves rather than in an open, grassy field which by definition tends to have no leaves As explained in the C conversation, the identity of the fox and their magic depends on their tails (catching their tail is also a way to de-mask them, which is present in the folklore), so Aqua getting entranced is part of the legend of the "kitsune". This can be framed as a "cultural change", but the dialogue is too descriptive for people in the west to not understand. This again, is completely missing, and was the main theme during the whole conversations Aqua/Azura seems to guilt trip herself in the localization for touching Kaden/Nishiki's fur without permission, while in the original, that type of implication is not present. ![Fire Emblem Fates - Nishiki X Aqua The dialogue has had cultural alterations to it, specifically to the power of the kitsune's tail. In Japanese folklore, a kitsune is a fox with great intelligence that most of the times also have magical powers and wisdom which increases with the time they are alive (and with the tails), they have the power to shapeshift in men or women which they use in various ways depending on the story The fox's tail is important because it's related to their magical powers (besides their identity), and they have difficulty hiding them when in human form, which is why in folklore, one of the ways to determine their identity is to check for their tails when they're confused, drunk, eto In our case, Aqua is entranced by his tail, this whole cultural part of the conversation is completely missing, instead, it's trivialized by making it seem as if Aqua has an obsession with "cute and fluffy things, when it's the magic doing this to her. Further explanations can be seen on the B conversation in As for the rest of the changes, they're the general cut lines and alterations, besides trivializing the characters personalities. Eg. ![Fire Emblem Fates - Lazwald x Aqua Some nuances and subtle expressions of emotion are lost here. In the original, Inigo first has the mpression that Aqua understood towards whom the feelings in his dance are directed to, but she was hesitant because of her status as a princess, he then misinterprets her trying to hide her feelings with her thinking that he lkes another woman and wants to help him achieve such a relationship, also believing that she does not have feelings for him. In the localization he's secretive at first and then immediately turns brash in the same situation, this is out of character for the shy and awkward Inigo Another slight difference is how the localization makes it seem as if Inigo is dancing intentionally trying to convey his feelings of love towards Aqua, the original instead conveys that one can simply see emotion through dance, and while Aqua did not fail to notice his feelings of love, she didn't know those were feelings that had to do with her Two smaller quips are again, the lack of the ring and how the localization puts an emphasis on Aqua's royalty as a reason for Aqua and Inigo not being compatible, while the original is much more subtle by expressing things like There's no way Aqua-sama really thinks that. #Torrential Downpour upport Translation Nintendo of America Ver. ふぅ…今日はこれぐらいかな. ▼ Aqua: .Lazwald.
